Simultaneous translation is used in conferences during business negotiations, seminars, presentations and other events that require the listener’s attention. Comparing with consecutive translation, simultaneous translation is more complex and more expensive. These shortcomings become less important due to enormous advantage they provide. It allows you significantly reduce speaking time with less tiring your audience. During simultaneous translation it is not necessary to wait for the presenter’s phrase translation, because it is translated simultaneously with the speaker’s speech.
There are three types of simultaneous translation:
- after hearing – translator hears the presenter’s speech by means of headphones and interprets information by its arrival
- From the written page – interpreter performs translation after written text as soon as the speaker finishes his/her speech. If the speaker deviates from the written topic, the translation is performed by ear.
- Pre-translated text – interpreter reads from the piece of paper- translated text which was done beforehand after speaker presents definite information blocks.
The first type of translation is for sure the most difficult that requires translator’s not only perfect knowledge of the language but also their experience. Conversely, not all the translators are capable to become simultaneous interpreters.
Taking into account that the sentence structure in different languages can dramatically vary, simultaneous translator should have linguistic predictive skills, trained short-term memory which not everyone possesses.
Today simultaneous translation due to its practical and rational approach is very popular. However, finding a good simultaneous translator is very difficult.
Not only professional skills (which are the “must have” for simultaneous translators) all our employees have good manners and external image which is very important for participation in medium and high level business events.
What you have to know ordering simultaneous translation
Simultaneous translation requires a lot of mental energy; translator cannot perform translation without stop for a long time. As a result, translation is performed by more than one translator who changes each other after definite period of time.
Usually the client is charged hourly for both, while our company watches after the number of translators, taking into account how complex the topic of the event is.
If the topic of the event is narrow, materials translators should receive in advance, so they can get acquainted with the topic.
Places where the presentations, seminars, discussion, or conferences are held require the necessary equipment for simultaneous translation. Mainly these include headphones, microphones or both.
